Donate to Worried About A Veteran
WAV is an initiative that empowers loved ones to prevent Veteran gun suicide. It features practical ways to support a Veteran loved one when suicide is a concern; warning signs; emotional support; gun-owner-friendly ways to store firearms away from home or inaccessibly until the situation improves; where to get help; what if help isn't working; and responding to emergencies.
Our history and legacy
WAV started as a New York State pilot program in 2022 when the Governor's Challenge to Prevent Suicide collaborated with Counseling on Access to Lethal Means (CALM) training to help address Veteran gun suicide. Initially piloted in New York State with support from the NYS Health Foundation, WAV expanded nationwide in 2024 with support from the Bronx Veterans Medical Research Foundation and additional funding from Face the Fight™.
